EASTPOINTE, Mich. – An Eastpointe teen is facing charges after she allegedly kicked her mom’s dog in the face, causing it to lose an eye.

Dezhiar Blair, 19, was arraigned on a third-degree animal torture charge, a four-year felony, on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.

A woman told police that when she got home on Wednesday, Feb. 25, her dog got excited and started barking.

Her daughter was allegedly upset by the barking and kicked the 3-year-old Shih-Poo dog, which weighs less than five pounds, in the face.

The dog started bleeding from its eye, and the mother took it to an emergency veterinarian.

They told the teen’s mom that the dog suffered head trauma and one of its eyes had popped out of its socket. Officials said the dog had surgery to remove the eye.

Blair was taken into custody, and on Friday, a judge set her bond at $50,000 cash/surety.

If she posts bond and is released, she cannot possess or have any contact with any animals, officials said.

The teen is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, March 11, for a probable cause conference.

“Allegations that this defendant kicked a defenseless dog in the head with such force that the animal lost an eye are deeply disturbing and will be treated with the utmost seriousness,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. “Cruelty to animals is not a minor lapse in judgment, it is a criminal act that inflicts needless suffering on vulnerable creatures who depend entirely on human care and protection. My office is committed to holding individuals accountable when they choose violence over compassion.”
