Police: Eastpointe teen arrested after kicking dog in face, popping eye out of socket

Mom told police her 19-year-old kicked dog in face over barking

EASTPOINTE, Mich. – An Eastpointe teen was upset when her mom’s dog started barking, so she kicked it in the face, causing its eye to pop out of its socket. Now, she’s in custody.

At about 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25, a woman arrived at the police station lobby to file an animal cruelty complaint.

She told officers that when she got home, her 3-year-old white Shih Poo was excited and started to bark.

Her 19-year-old daughter was upset by the barking and then kicked the dog in the face, according to police.

The woman said the dog started bleeding from its eye.

When she took him to an emergency veterinarian, they told her the dog had suffered head trauma and that his eye had popped out of its socket.

The dog’s eye was removed during surgery, according to police.

Officers interviewed the teen, and she was taken into custody.

The case pends a review from the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.
