Teen arrested in theft during meet-up at Livonia Police Department

Suspect identified and arrested days after the theft

LIVONIA, Mich. – A 19-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with a theft that took place in the Livonia Police Department’s parking lot.

It happened just before 7 p.m., Feb. 18.

According to authorities, two people arranged to meet in the Livonia Police Department’s parking lot to complete sale they set up online.

During the transaction, the buyer reportedly handed over the cash without inspecting the phones, and the seller drove away with more than $1,000 of the victim’s money.

Police identified the suspect as 19-year-old Demerious Whiteside, who was arrested Thursday, Feb. 26.

Whiteside was arraigned on a charge of larceny on Friday, Feb. 27. His bond was set at $15,000.

His next court date is scheduled for April 6.
