STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Occupants inside a Jeep were critically injured after colliding with a Priority Waste truck in Sterling Heights.
The incident occurred on Friday (Feb. 27) at 4:22 p.m. after a white Jeep Cherokee collided with the truck, according to the Sterling Heights Police Department.

Preliminary investigation indicates the Priority Waste vehicle was traveling westbound on 18 1/2 Mile Road in the left lane when the white Jeep Cherokee entered westbound 18 1/2 Mile Road from southbound Merrill Road, and the collision occurred.
Both occupants of the Jeep were seriously injured and transported by Sterling Heights Fire Department ambulance to a Troy area hospital for treatment.
Police said the driver was listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries; the passenger was reported in stable condition.
Officials said the occupants of the Priority Waste vehicle were not injured.
Police said they’ve impounded the Jeep at the scene for further examination.
The intersection of 18 1/2 Mile Road and Merrill Road was closed for about three hours while officers conducted an initial investigation.
Police said it is unknown at this time whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.
The circumstances of the crash remain under active investigation.
