DETROIT – Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Marcellis Dushaun Williams, 39, of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal shooting of his 6-year-old daughter.
Police said officers were dispatched about 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 1, to a home in the 8800 block of Artesian Street for a reported shooting.
Officers said they located the child in a bedroom with gunshot wounds to the shoulder and thumb.
She was taken to a Metro Detroit hospital for treatment.
Officials have not released her condition.
Prosecutors allege the child found an unsecured handgun in the home and fired it, striking herself.
Williams was charged with firearms safe-storage violations — premises under an individual’s control, minor present — and with causing serious impairment of a body function by the actions alleged in the charging paperwork, prosecutors said.
Williams is expected to be arraigned sometime in March in 36th District Court.
