According to authorities, Michigan State Police troopers stopped a vehicle near the facility after noticing “suspicious activity.”

At that time, police said prison staff found a package inside the prison yard containing about 100 grams of methamphetamine and four ounces of THC wax.

The facility is surrounded by two chain-link fences.

The vehicle’s occupants -- 27-year-old Travonte Brown and 32-year-old Daquarius Turner, both of Kalamazoo -- and a 16-year-old boy were taken into custody.

Brown and Turner were both charged Tuesday, March 3, with delivering/manufacturing methamphetamine and marijuana, bringing contraband into a prison and contributing to the delinquency of children.

They were both given a $10,000 bond and are scheduled to return to court on March 12.

The teen boy, a resident of Battle Creek, is expected to be charged with smuggling contraband into a prison, possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, and possession with intent to deliver THC. His name is being withheld due to his age.
