What is a 4Warn Weather Alert?
We issue a 4Warn Weather Alert when we’re expecting weather conditions that will be inconvenient to our viewers.
Why did we issue an alert for Friday?
High winds
Winds will increase quickly in the morning, shifting from the southwest to west throughout the day. Winds will be steady at 20-30 mph with gusts of 50-60 mph possible.
The Detroit National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for our entire area from 5:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.
Winds this high can cause tree damage and down power lines. Scattered power outages will be possible. Gusty winds can also veer your vehicle, particularly on north/south roads today you’ll want to use caution and stay alert.
Winds will lighten late tonight, dropping to 15-20 mph in the early morning hours Saturday.
Snow
Roads could become slushy and slick this morning as light snow moves into Southeast Michigan.
Snow will fall throughout the morning before transitioning to wintry mix and rain as temperatures warm above freezing midday into the afternoon.
Totals closer to the Ohio border toward the I-94 corridor will be around one inch or less. From there toward the I-69 corridor it’s more likely to pick up a quick inch or two, and into the thumb accumulations look to be near a few inches or so.
Mix and snow will end this evening and we’ll turn drier overnight.
