Tumbling temps, possible damaging winds and snow showers in Metro Detroit -- what to know

Whipping winds and weather whiplash to start the week

A 4Warn Weather Alert remains in effect due to hazardous wind gusts today (up to 50 MPH). A Wind Advisory in Southeast Michigan expires at midnight (tonight/Tuesday morning).

As winds shift direction today behind the cold front, arctic air sends temperatures tumbling from the 60s (that we hit just after midnight) into the 20s by this evening. The arctic air also brings increasing chances for lake effect snow bands and possible snow squalls this afternoon.

Snow squalls could lead to whiteout conditions for the evening commute, so exercise caution.

Tomorrow

Wind chills bottom out around zero Tuesday morning with highs only in the mid to upper 20s Tuesday afternoon with another chance for scattered afternoon flurries.

Rest of the Week

We start to rebound with highs in the upper 30s on Wednesday and then back in the 50s Thursday through Saturday. However, long-range data does indicate a snow chance Wednesday night into Thursday morning, before changing over to rain with the warmer air on Thursday.
