EASTPOINTE, Mich. – An armed robbery at a home led to a police pursuit that ended in a crash and a fatal shooting in Eastpointe.
The incident occurred on Sunday (March 15) at a home in the 22000 block of Firwood Avenue at 3:05 a.m. as officers said they were dispatched to investigate the armed robbery complaint.
The victim told investigators he had been invited to the home by a woman he met online.
While inside the house, the man said he was struck in the head with an unknown object and briefly lost consciousness.
When he regained consciousness, the victim said a man was standing over him and pointing a handgun at his head.
The victim said the man demanded his belongings and threatened to shoot him.
Police said the victim gave the man his phone, money, and car keys.
Officials said the victim was then allowed to leave and told to run, and the suspects fled in the victim’s vehicle.
Eastpointe’s Special Investigation Unit said they observed the suspect drop the woman at the Firwood Avenue house on March 16 at about 3:30 p.m.
Patrol officers said they later located the suspect near 9 Mile Road and Schoenherr Road and attempted a traffic stop.
The suspect did not stop and fled at high speed, prompting a pursuit, police said.
Police said the chase ended when the suspect crashed in the area of 8 Mile Road near I‑75.
Officials said the suspect turned a handgun on himself and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Eastpointe Detective Bureau executed a search warrant at the Firwood house and took the woman into custody without incident.
The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office said it will decide whether to charge the woman.
