Experts worry prediction markets can trigger recovering gambling addicts Prediction markets allow people to wager on anything from sports to awards to temperatures
Last year, Americans bet about $148 billion on sports — up nearly 24 percent, and now you can bet on almost anything online.
Prediction markets let you wager on sports, awards, or even the temperature in Seoul, South Korea -- and that’s opening a lot more doors for risk.
The worry is this: more ways to bet means more triggers for people recovering from gambling addiction.
During Problem Gambling Awareness Month, Kirtus Thurston, a peer recovery specialist at the Henry Ford Maplegrove Center, joined Local 4 Live to talk more about this. You can watch the full interview at the beginning of this article.
