Detroit teen shot man, then took his money. Now he faces murder charges

DETROIT – A Detroit teen is facing several charges, including first-degree murder, after he shot a man and then robbed him of his money last month.

Mikeal Keyonne Franklin, 19, has been charged with premeditated first-degree murder, felony murder, armed robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, felonious assault and four counts of felony firearm, in connection with the killing of 21-year-old Keimonte Johnson, also of Detroit, according to a release from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

The deadly shooting happened at around 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 16, 2026, in the 5800 block of Michigan Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found Johnson in the front passenger seat of a car with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Franklin is accused of firing shots at Johnson before robbing him of his money and leaving the scene.

Officials said he was arraigned and remanded to jail on March 21. His probable cause conference is scheduled for March 30, and his preliminary examination is set for April 6.
