2 killed when driver fleeing police hits Volvo at more than 100 mph in Macomb County

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 54-year-old man from Sterling Heights is facing felony charges after reportedly crashing into another vehicle at more than 100 mph while fleeing from police, killing two men.

It happened March 14 at the intersection of Gratiot Avenue and 14 Mile Road in Clinton Township.

According to authorities, police spotted Keith Blackwell speeding south on Gratiot Avenue near Quinn Road and initiated a traffic stop, but Blackwell reportedly sped up.

Prosecutors said Blackwell’s Jeep reached over 100 mph when he struck a white Volvo that was driving eastbound on 14 Mile Road.

The two men inside the Volvo -- 23-year-old Richard Talley and 24-year-old Joshua Jones -- were killed and Blackwell was hospitalized.

On Monday, March 23, 2026, Blackwell was charged with two counts of first-degree fleeing and eluding and two counts of reckless driving causing death.

His bond was set at $100,000. Blackwell is scheduled to return to court for a probable cause conference on April 27.
