Police say keys and hard hat taken in failed escape (WDIV)

ROSE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 49-year-old woman from Charlevoix was arrested after reportedly trying to steal a pickup truck from a propane company in northern Michigan.

It happened just before noon on Friday, March 20, in Rose Township, about 15 miles north of West Branch.

According to authorities, an employee entered a fenced-in lot to refill propane and found the woman inside. Police said she had removed multiple items from the area -- including keys and a hard hat -- and was pretending to work for the company.

The employee didn’t recognize her and called 911.

Police believe the woman -- who had several warrants for her arrest and was on probation for stealing a car -- was attempting to steal an employee’s truck, but was locked inside the fenced-in area and could not open the gate.

She was taken into custody and lodged at the Ogemaw County Jail.
