LANSING, MI -- An Ogemaw County man was overcome with emotion inside his local gas station after he learned he’d won a $1.15 Lotto 47 jackpot. “I always purchase a Lotto 47 ticket when I stop at the gas station in the morning to get coffee,” said the 62-year-old winner who chose to remain anonymous. “I went to the same gas station a few days after purchasing my Lotto 47 ticket and the clerk asked if I’d bought a Lotto 47 ticket from them recently because they had sold a $1.15 million winning ticket. I feel so incredibly blessed!”The lucky winner bought his ticket at the BP gas station, located at 619 South Bennett Street in Rose City. MILLS TWP, MI — A residential fire in rural Ogemaw County has claimed the lives of two children. At 8:02 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported fire at a trailer home 1867 First Oak St. in Mills Township. Their three surviving children — ages 13, 11, and 8 months — were taken to Hurley by ambulance for treatment of their injuries, the sheriff said. Several fire departments responded to the scene, including Mills Township, Richland Logan, West Branch, and Moffatt Township. Ogemaw County EMS also responded.

According to a joint obituary for the trio, the family had lived in Bay City for the past year and a half. Jacob Dougherty, described in the obituary as a “happy and joyful baby,” had been born in Bay City on May 21. A GoFundMe campaign has also been started to help cover funeral costs, with any remaining funds going toward Dougherty and Pomeroy’s surviving daughter. CHURCHILL TWP, MI — A West Branch man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle. About 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, Michigan State Police troopers from the West Branch Post responded to a vehicle-pedestrian crash on Gerald Miler Road in Ogemaw County’s Churchill Township. Investigators have determined a 17-year-old West Branch woman had been driving a 2010 Ford Fusion south on Gerald Miller Road when she was met by an oncoming northbound vehicle. The pedestrian was taken from the scene by Ogemaw County EMS to a local hospital and subsequently airlifted to a downstate hospital for treatment. Troopers were assisted at the scene by Ogemaw County EMS and the MSP Third District traffic crash reconstructionist.

WEST BRANCH, Mich. – Officials announced the arrest of Samuel David Neva, 24 of West Branch, for possession and distribution of child sexually abusive material and using a computer to commit a crime. Police said the investigation was launched after “it was learned” that Neva was viewing child sexually abusive materials on the internet. Neva was charged with six counts of possession of child sexually abusive material, four counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material, five counts of distributing child sexually abusive material, and four counts of using a computer to commit a crime. Berkley woman dies after crashing jet ski into dock in Clear Lake, police say
FOSTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. A 39-year-old Berkley woman has died after crashing a watercraft into a dock in Clear Lake on Saturday afternoon. Michigan State Police say at about 5 p.m. the Berkley woman lost control of the jet ski she was operating and collided with a dock. Unsuccessful life-saving measures were attempted by officers following the crash, police say. The woman died before being taken to the hospital. A second passenger, a 33-year-old woman from California, was also injured in the crash.
