MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – Have you received a text that claims you have an outstanding traffic violation?

It’s a common scam that is now resurfacing in Monroe County.

Recipients report receiving texts that demand payment.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office warns the public that these messages are not legitimate and that you should not respond.

Residents who receive calls from someone posing as a government agency demanding payment in cryptocurrency or gift cards are urged to hang up immediately and contact the actual agency directly.
