Nub’s Nob in Emmet County is replacing its iconic orange chairlift, a fixture at the ski resort since 1979, with a new, faster four-seat ride.

The new lift, built by Skytrac, is a fixed-grip chair designed to get more skiers to ride at once. Resort officials say the current lift takes about six minutes to ride, while the new one will trim that down to around five.

Construction is set to begin after the current ski season wraps up in April.

Parts of the old orange chairlift won’t go to waste, as components of it will be reused on other runs at the resort.
