Scammers offering fake jewelry for money at Northern Michigan gas stations, police say
EMMET COUNTY, MI – Police in Northern Michigan are making sure the public is aware of a scam in Emmet County. According to MSP troopers, the scam involves a family begging for money at gas stations, saying they need it for food and gasoline, and offering fake jewelry in return for cash donations. Troopers say a victim in Petoskey gave the family money and later observed them not buying fuel or food. The victim followed them to another gas station and witnessed them conning another person. The difference between recycling efforts in Emmet County and elsewhere across Michigan is a matter of longevity and investment in both recycling infrastructure and long-term relationships with businesses that re-use the materials. “The people at the time that were running Emmet County were very forward thinking in trying to incentivize recycling,” said Andi Tolzdorf, program director. Most of the companies that buy Emmet County’s recycled feedstock are in Michigan or other parts of the Great Lakes region. Tolzdorf said they make sure everything Emmet County Recycling accepts “is recyclable and is recycled.” They do not take anything that does not have a strong market, which she said means no Styrofoam. “The more we recycle, the more jobs we create here in the state of Michigan that stay in the state of Michigan.mlive.com

Wounded man walking in Michigan highway was attacked by acquaintance with machete, police say
EMMET COUNTY, MI – A man found walking down US-31 with a severe laceration said he was attacked by a machete-wielding man in Northern Michigan. When troopers arrived, they found the victim, a 34-year-old Petoskey man walking in the middle of the highway with a severe wound to his left leg. The victim stated he had been attacked by a 56-year-old Petoskey man staying at a local motel. It allegedly culminated with one man being attacked with a machete by the other man. EMMET COUNTY, MI – A batch of Arctic grayling salmonid eggs were transported from Alaska to Michigan as the carry-on luggage of a researcher as part of an initiative to repopulate the native fish. Since their voyage, the eggs have hatched, and the fish are growing and thriving at a fish hatchery. The Michigan Arctic Grayling Initiative to bring them back began in 2016. They traveled by plane as the carry-on luggage of a Michigan State University researcher. Suspected drunken driver dies from injuries suffered in Northern Michigan crash
EMMET COUNTY, MI - A suspected drunk driver has died from injuries suffered in a Northern Michigan crash. After speaking with the officer for about five minutes, the driver drove off in the vehicle south on Standish Avenue then continued south on Howard Road. The officer later found the damaged vehicle on the west side of Howard Road, according to the TV station. The driver was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries, according to police. The crash remains under investigation, according to the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office.mlive.com
Man flees police twice, caught after footprints in snow led officers to house
EMMET COUNTY, MI -- Police arrested a man Sunday after tracking his vehicle and following footprints left in the snow to his home in Boyne City. The officer did not pursue, but issued a be on the lookout warning in the area for fellow officers. Shortly thereafter, an officer with the Petoskey Department of Public Safety attempted to stop Pasfield, who again sped away. A third officer, this one an Emmet County sheriff’s deputy spotted the Jeep and tracked it to a home on Cedar Valley Road. When Pasfield was identified as the owner, police attempted to arrest him, but he resisted before eventually being taken into custody and lodged at the Emmet County Jail.mlive.com

Police investigating bomb threat in Downtown Harbor Springs
HARBOR SPRINGS, Mich. – Harbor Springs police received a bomb threat in the area of Main and State streets in Downtown Harbor Springs. The Harbor Springs Police Department, Michigan State Police and the Emmet County Sheriff’s Department are actively investigating the threat. Harbor Springs schools were locked down until 4:15 p.m., which is when students were released. The public is asked to avoid the Downtown Harbor Springs area. Michigan man accused of breaking window, trying to pull woman from car full of kids
EMMET COUNTY, MI – A Michigan man charged with domestic violence allegedly broke the window of a vehicle filled with kids before trying to pull their mother from the car. The 31-year-old Bear Creek Township man also had multiple in-state and out-of-state warrants, according to the Michigan State Police. The domestic incident occurred on Pickerel Lake Road in Emmet County’s Bear Creek Township at approximately 5:45 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19. A perimeter was quickly established and an MSP Canine Team along with a member of the MSP emergency support team tracked and ultimately located the suspect hiding in the woods. EMMET COUNTY, MI – A 61-year-old man is dead after a fire engulfed his home on Tuesday afternoon. Mark Allen Rosalik, of Harbor Springs, was found dead inside the home on Hill Road near Cross Village on Oct. 6, UpNorthLive reports. Cheboygan man, 18, accused of sexual assault during kidnapping
EMMET COUNTY, MI -- Michigan State Police arrested an 18-year-old Cheyboygan man on multiple felony charges after he allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted a woman on July 12. James Charboneau appeared in 90th District Court Thursday and was charged on six counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct causing personal injury, six counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct during commission of a felony, to-wit; kidnapping – unlawful imprisonment, three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct causing personal injury, three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct during commission of a felony, to-wit: kidnapping – unlawful imprisonment, and one count unlawful imprisonment. The victim was treated at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Cheboygan and evidence was turned over the MSP. An investigation led to the 19-count felony warrant against Charboneau, who was arrested Wednesday. Bond was set at $1 million and Charboneau is being held at the Emmet County Jail.mlive.com
Hillsdale man arrested after 8-hour police standoff in Northern Michigan
ANTRIM COUNTY, Mich. – A Hillsdale man has been arrested after an eight-hour standoff with police in Antrim County Thursday. According to report from WPBN, police received a complaint that a man, later identified as 42-year-old Kip Miller, was driving erratically in Emmet County and may have intentionally swerved into another vehicle. Investigators said four children were in the vehicle with Miller, who claimed that they were living out of his vehicle. A chase ensued through Emmet County into Antrim County. Miller is expected to face additional charges in Emmet County.

EMMET COUNTY, Mich. A Michigan man was arrested for sexually assaulting his girlfriends young daughter about 10 years ago, state police said. Anthony Francis Wilson, 38, of East Jordan, Michigan, was arrested after a parent called Michigan State Police in April to report a child had been sexual assaulted. The alleged assault happened about 10 years ago, when Wilson was dating the childs mother, according to authorities. Wilson was charged with one county of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with multiple variables. He was arraigned at 90th District Court in Emmet County.

Three people have been arrested and charged in connection with selling cocaine in Emmet County. The three suspects were in the home when the search warrant was executed. Police say 21-year-old Brett Eric Williams of Alanson was charged with delivery of cocaine and conspiracy to deliver cocaine. Adam Nicholas Albrecht, 22, of Alanson was charged with delivery of cocaine, conspiracy to deliver cocaine, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, and maintaining a drug house. Darren Andrew Robinson, 19, of Alanson was charged with delivery of cocaine and conspiracy to deliver cocaine.
