Police say officer was stabbed in leg

LIVONIA, Mich. – A Livonia officer was stabbed in the leg after a man allegedly entered the police station lobby and said he wanted to kill everyone while waving a knife around.

The man walked into the building and started making these threats just after 9 a.m. on Friday, April 3, according to police.

The statements indicated the man was having a mental health crisis and that he became aggressive toward the officers, according to a release from the police department.

Officers, along with the department’s crisis clinician, tried to de-escalate the situation, but their efforts weren’t successful.

Multiple officers deployed Tasers, and eventually one made contact.

The man fell to the ground, and officers attempted to take him into custody, but a struggle ensued.

During the struggle on the ground, the man allegedly stabbed an officer in the leg.

An officer who had his gun drawn was also kicked by the man during the struggle, causing an accidental discharge of one round, according to police. No one was struck.

Police said the suspect was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries and for a psychological evaluation.

The officer was also taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.

The investigation is ongoing.
