“I started playing Lotto 47 decades ago when it began and have continued to play every Wednesday and Saturday since,” the woman told Michigan Lottery officials. “I was watching TV one night when I got a text from my neighbor telling me Beson’s had sold a jackpot-winning Lotto 47 ticket. I thought to myself it was cool they had sold a big winner, but it never crossed my mind that it could be me.”
She said she immediately called a few loved ones after finding out about her big win.
“After my show ended, I checked my ticket and went absolutely crazy when I found out I was the winner! I called a few family members and my neighbor to tell them the big news,” the woman said. “Winning is such a blessing. I feel like I can breathe again!”
The 65-year-old purchased her winning ticket at Beson’s Supermarket at 1480 South Huron Road in Kawkawlin, which is about 10 miles northwest of Bay City.
She decided to claim her prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $762,000.
The woman told lottery officials that she plans to save her winnings.
Players pay $1 per Lotto 47 play and pick six numbers from 1 to 47. The jackpot starts at $1 million and grows until someone wins.
For $1 more per play, players can add Double Play for a second chance to win up to $1.5 million in a separate nightly drawing. For another $1 per play, they can add EZMatch for instant prizes up to $500.
Lotto 47 drawings are held at 7:29 p.m. on Wednesday and Saturday.
A 69-year-old Oakland County woman, who has also been playing Lotto 47 for years, won a $1.2 million jackpot in the drawing that happened on March 11.
