Worker dies in fall at Michigan sugar beet processing plant
BAY CITY, Mich. โ A man who was helping clean a chute at a sugar beet processing plant in Michiganโs Thumb region fell about 120 feet (37 meters) to his death, authorities said. Bay County Sheriffโs deputies who were called Tuesday night to the Michigan Sugar Co. plant near Bay City about a fatal accident found the 53-year-old plant worker dead, police said. Bay Countyโs chief medical examiner pronounced the man dead at the scene, said Sheriffโs Lt. James Chlebowski. The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been contacted about the worker's death, he said. Michigan Sugar Co. said in a statement that it is cooperating with authorities investigating the workerโs death, and added that โthe thoughts and prayers of everyone at Michigan Sugar Company are with the family of this employee.โ
Michigan department publishes dam failure report
The report provides an update on the ongoing investigation into the Edenville Dam, plans to restore the Tobacco River's flow and the lack of coordination with the dams' owner Boyce Hydro. Michigan to auction 225 land parcels: Heres where, how to bid
Michigan will hold its annual land auction this fall, offering more than 200 parcels of surplus land across the state. The parcels available for auction range from lake frontage to small lots. There will be 225 properties available through an online auction in September and October. Counties include Allegan, Antrim, Bay, Crawford, Gladwin, Gogebic, Houghton, Lake, Lapeer, Missaukee, Newaygo, Oscoda, Otsego, Schoolcraft and Shiawassee. Horses displaced by Midland floods find home at west Michigan rescue farm
WEST BRANCH, Mich. Several horses displaced by the pandemic and flooding across parts of central Michigan have found a new home at a rescue farm. The 20 acre farm and 13,000-square-foot barn and riding facility is now home to 38 horses, donkeys, mules, ponies and miniature horses. Were kind of the retirement home for horses, said Dolores 'Doris' Harris, chief financial officer and founder of D&R Acres, of West Branch. Although many animals stay at D&R Acres for the rest of their days, the farm does adopt out equines once the animal adjusts to the situation.

Michigan man plans to steal helicopter for hospital attack to free COVID-19 patients, police say
A Michigan man devised a plan to steal a helicopter from the Coast Guard in order to attack a police station and shooting up a hospital to disrupt the power and free the coronavirus (COVID-19) patients, authorities said.
I-75 project kicks off in Mid-Michigan, lane reductions and traffic delays expected
BAY COUNTY, Mich. โ A project to fix a stretch of I-75 in Bay County is kicking off this week. "Youโre going to see lane shifts and lane reductions," Jocelyn Hall, the Bay Region Communication Representative with MDOT to NBC 25. In anticipation of the project, the Chip Road bridge and Mackinaw Road bridge are already closed. Part of these bridges, as well as the Wilder Road bridge, will be completely redone during the construction. "Itโs best to just go ahead and remove that pavement and lay a new deck and it will greatly improve the driving surface and be a driving surface that will be in service for years to come.
