It’s the conversation many parents keep putting off: what are your kids actually doing online?
On April 7, Southeastern High School in Detroit is doing something about it. The school is hosting a free family event bringing parents and teens together to talk about digital safety and online well-being.
Research shows that when parents stay engaged in their kids’ digital lives, it makes a real difference, but starting that conversation is where parents get tripped up.
According to the U.S. Surgeon General, teens who spend more than three hours a day on social media face double the risk of depression and anxiety.
The events on Tuesday give families the tools to actually have those conversations.
Mikki Wilson, the connected ambassador with the National PTA, and Tramena ONeil, the PTSA treasurer at Southeastern High School, joined Local 4 Live to talk about Tuesday night’s event. You can watch the full interview in the video at the beginning of this article.
