Do you recognize this man? Livonia police seek help in car theft case

Officials said the suspect had arrived on foot before entering the vehicle and fleeing the scene

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Livonia Police Department is asking the public for help identifying a suspect in a vehicle theft that ended with a police pursuit in Detroit.

The incident occurred on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at approximately 5:47 a.m. at the BP gas station near 5 Mile Road and Levan Road.

Police said a man allegedly stole a black Ford Explorer after the owner briefly left the vehicle running while inside the station.

Officials said the suspect had arrived on foot before entering the vehicle and fleeing the scene.

Police said they later located the stolen SUV and pursued it eastbound on I-96.

Officials said the chase continued into the area of 6 Mile Road and Telegraph in Detroit, where the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

The vehicle was recovered, but the suspect has not been identified.

Police released video footage of the suspect and urged anyone with information to contact the Livonia Police Department.

No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
