Pointer was sentenced on two counts of possession of child sexually abusive material and two counts of using a computer to commit a crime related to possession of child sexually abusive material.

As part of his sentence, Pointer must register as a sex offender under Michigan’s Sex Offender Registration Act (SORA) as a Tier 2 offender. He is also subject to Wyatt’s Law.

Wyatt’s Law is designed to protect children from serial abusers. It gives parents access to information about adults with prior child abuse convictions who are caring for their children, helping stop repeat offenders before they can harm another child.

The law is named after Wyatt Rewoldt, who was abused by his father’s girlfriend. She had a previous history of child abuse that his family had no way of knowing about.

Pointer was arraigned on Oct. 31, 2025, on eight charges stemming from an investigation that began April 14, 2025, when authorities allegedly found “many files of child sexually abusive material” in his possession, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.

His original charges included:

  • One count of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material (10-year felony)
  • One count of using a computer to commit a crime related to aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material (10-year felony)
  • Two counts of using a computer to commit a crime related to possession of child sexually abusive material (each a 7-year felony)
  • Two counts of possession of child sexually abusive material (each a 4-year felony)

A judge had set Pointer’s bond at $500,000 cash/surety, 10%, at arraignment.
