Police said they were conducting speed enforcement on Ostrander Road near Dundee Azalia Road when they observed a gray GMC Sierra traveling westbound at 58 mph in a posted 40 mph zone using stationary Lidar equipment.

After Deputy Carena activated the emergency lights on his marked patrol vehicle to initiate a traffic stop, the GMC turned north onto Dundee Azalia Road and accelerated at a high rate of speed.

Investigators said the roadway had recently been re-graveled, causing the pickup truck to fishtail repeatedly while traveling between 50 and 60 mph.

Police said they then activated his siren and notified dispatch that the vehicle was fleeing.

The GMC, later identified as displaying Ohio license plates, allegedly continued north before turning east onto Cone Road without stopping at a stop sign.

Officials said the driver accelerated to approximately 80 mph after passing Wells Road, where road conditions improved.

The pursuit continued as the vehicle failed to stop at another intersection at Bunce Road before turning northbound.

During the turn, investigators said the truck briefly left the roadway before regaining control.

Police said the driver eventually slowed near Barnes Road, where they used the patrol vehicle’s public address system to order the driver to stop.

Officials said the driver initially complied, prompting deputies to begin a felony stop.

However, while deputies were issuing commands for the driver to exit the vehicle, the suspect fled again, turning east onto Barnes Road and north onto Plank Road without stopping at a stop sign, according to the sheriff’s office.

The pursuit ended shortly thereafter when the driver stopped and was taken into custody without incident.

No injuries or property damage were reported.

Authorities identified the driver only as a 25-year-old man from Fremont, Ohio.

During a search of the GMC Sierra, deputies said they recovered a loaded assault rifle magazine and a box of ammunition, officials said.

No firearms were found inside the vehicle.

The man was transported to the Monroe County Jail and lodged on charges of felony fleeing and eluding and felon in possession of ammunition.

His name is being withheld pending arraignment in Monroe County 1st District Court.

The incident remains under investigation by Deputy Cody Carena of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division.
