OSCEOLA COUNTY, Mich. – A former Michigan man has been sentenced for sexually assaulting three minors two decades ago.

Jason Kushmaul, 50, of Oakdale, Louisiana, was sentenced on May 15.

The man was sentenced in Osceola County to 12-25 years’ incarceration after pleading no contest to three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Police say Kushmaul sexually assaulted three minors under the age of 13 from approximately 2002-2008 while living in Osceola County.

Kushmaul was initially charged in 2016 by the Osceola County prosecuting attorney’s office after the victims reported the assaults.

At that time Kushmaul had left Michigan.

In February, Kushmaul was extradited to Osceola County and arraigned as part of Operation Survivor Justice.

The operation is a partnership between the Michigan Department of Attorney General, local County Prosecutors, and the U.S. Marshals Service.

They work to locate, apprehend, and return to Michigan fugitive offenders with outstanding sexual assault warrants.

Under Operation Survivor Justice, the U.S. Marshals Service will work with the Department of Attorney General and local prosecutors to track down and take into custody criminal defendants across the continental U.S.
