Detroit’s next lighting plan is asking for your input
New plan focused on lighting stretch’s between intersections
DETROIT, – Detroit is working on a mid-block lighting plan and is asking for community feedback before its next phase.
The plan is a $10 million addition to the past decade’s added 65,000 streetlights with LED lights from the Public Lighting Authority Project.
The current project will focus on stretches between intersections that residents feel are too dark
City leaders say that the effort has so far cut down dark blocks, improved visibility, and boosted safety across the city.
Melvin Smith, Public Lighting Authority community engagement/facilities manager, joined Local 4 Live to help us better understand the project.
