Detroit police shoot, kill man during search warrant on city’s east side

No officers injured

DETROIT – A 20-year-old man was shot and killed by police serving a search warrant on Detroit’s east side.

It happened just after 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 27, near the intersection of Moross and Kelly roads.

Police said they were executing a search warrant connected to a shooting on Waltham Street on May 23.

Two women and a child were cleared from the home as they searched.

The officers reportedly found a closed bedroom door and when they opened it, a 20-year-old man inside fired a single shot at them. An officer returned fire, killing the man.

No officers were injured. A large police presence remains on the scene.

A 17-year-old boy wanted in the Waltham Street shooting is still being sought. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Detroit Police Department at 313-596-5900
