Michigan residents and visitors can once again enjoy two full days of free fishing, off-roading and state park entry for the state’s annual “Three Free” weekend, June 13-14.
The initiative, led by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), aims to encourage folks to visit Michigan’s 103 state parks, 1,000-plus state-managed boating access sites and many other outdoor spaces by waiving permit and park entry fees for the weekend.

“Whether you want to cast a line, hit the ORV trails or relax in Michigan’s award-winning state parks, ‘Three Free’ weekend checks all the boxes,” DNR Director Scott Bowen said in a news release.
As part of DNR’s “Three Free” Weekend park-goers can:
- Legally ride 4,000 miles of state-designated ORV routes and trails and the state’s six scramble areas without purchasing an ORV license or trail permit
- Fish for all in-season species, all weekend long, without a license
- Visit any of Michigan’s state parks across the state for free without a Recreation Passport.
All other fishing regulations and ORV rules and laws still apply.
