As part of Gun Violence Prevention Month, a coalition of local organizations known as End Gun Violence Michigan have been hosting “Silence the Violence” events across the state, with many more planned throughout the month of June.
Approximately 1,228 people died by a firearm in the state in 2023, and 46,728 individuals died from gun violence in the U.S. the same year — marking the third-highest annual total ever recorded — according to most recent data from the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics.

In Michigan, guns are the leading cause of death among children and teens, with an average of 115 children and teens killed by firearms every year, End Gun Violence Michigan reports.
