STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – A woman was arrested hours after a bank robbery in Sterling Heights, following a multi-agency investigation that led authorities to recover most of the stolen money.

Officers said they arrived within two minutes and confirmed that no injuries had been reported.

Police said the woman handed a note to a bank teller demanding money.

Officials said no weapon was displayed or seen during the robbery.

Police said the woman obtained an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene.

Officers said they immediately began searching the area and deployed the Sterling Heights Police K-9 Unit, which tracked the woman’s path to a nearby parking lot.

Police said they reviewed surveillance footage from the bank and developed descriptions of both the suspect and the vehicle believed to have been used in the getaway.

Officials determined the woman’s vehicle had been reported stolen from Troy on June 14.

Police also learned the woman fled the area in a vehicle without a license plate.

The vehicle was later captured on nearby surveillance cameras.

Sterling Heights detectives worked with the FBI, Macomb County Violent Crimes Task Force, the Macomb Auto Theft Squad, and the Troy Police Department Special Investigations Unit to identify and track the woman.

As a result of the investigation, an out-of-state woman was located in Warren and arrested without incident later that day.

Police said investigators recovered several pieces of evidence, including most of the money taken during the robbery.

Officials credited the quick arrest to coordinated efforts among multiple law enforcement agencies, investigative technology, and the work of responding officers and detectives.

The case remains under investigation.

Charges are expected to be submitted to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Police said the woman’s identity will not be released unless charges are authorized and the suspect is arraigned.

Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact Detective Orvelo at 586-446-2844.
