2 adults, 2 children rescued from 30-foot embankment after vehicle crash

Two adults and two young children were hospitalized on Sunday after their vehicle left the roadway in Southfield and ended up in a steep embankment.

Police say the single-vehicle crash happened around 3:30 p.m. on Simmons Avenue near Berg Road, leaving the occupants trapped inside approximately 30 feet below the roadway at the bottom of the embankment near the Rouge River.

Wildlife biologists in Michigan are seeking help from the public for the state’s annual wild turkey brood survey.

Open now through Aug. 31, the survey provides the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) with valuable information about the health of Michigan’s turkey population, which the DNR calls “one of Michigan’s greatest wildlife conservation success stories.”

Considered regionally extinct in Michigan by the turn of the 20th century, wild turkey populations have seen major strides since getting reintroduced in the state by the DNR in the 1950s.

Is Kevin Durant hinting at Detroit? Tigers hat post ignites Pistons trade rumors

The Detroit Pistons are among several NBA teams that have contacted the Houston Rockets to inquire about Kevin Durant’s availability this offseason, per reports.

According to NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints while Houston is not actively shopping Durant, the veteran forward is not considered “untouchable” as the Rockets continue evaluating their roster following a busy offseason.

Durant appeared to fuel speculation Sunday (July 5) by posting a photo on Instagram wearing a Detroit Tigers cap featuring the club’s iconic Old English “D.”

Taylor police chief gives update after officers shoot armed robbery suspect outside Sheetz gas station

Four Taylor police officers shot a man after he pointed a handgun at them during a traffic stop outside a Sheetz gas station and convenience store.

The shooting occurred on Monday around 11:40 a.m. in the 20600 block of Eureka Road. The officers had stopped a U-Haul truck that police said was connected to an armed robbery in Cleveland, Ohio.

Taylor Police Chief John Blair said an officer on patrol received an alert from the city’s Flock camera system and an in-car license plate reader indicating the U-Haul had been flagged in law enforcement databases in connection with the Ohio robbery.

Weather: Typical summer weather Tuesday before heat and storm chances return

Metro Detroit is set for another pleasant summer day before warmer temperatures and a more active weather pattern return later this week. Expect a mix of sunshine and clouds today with afternoon highs reaching the mid-80s, right around average for early July. Some areas of fog are possible late tonight into early Wednesday morning before quickly burning off with sunrise.

The warming trend begins Wednesday as temperatures climb back into the upper 80s, with similar warmth expected Thursday. Along with the increasing heat, humidity levels will also begin to rise, setting the stage for a more unsettled end to the workweek.
