SMART is deploying cooling buses at 6 locations in Metro Detroit available to the public as a free, air-conditioned space to cool down, stay hydrated, and find relief from extreme heat.
Extreme heat is defined as temperatures over 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
Those at serious health risks are seniors, people with disabilities, young children, and those without access to air conditioning.
SMART’s Cooling Bus program is part of the organization’s plan to serving the community beyond transit operations.
SMART will have 6 locations for the program from July 13-17, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
The organization says Cooling Buses will operate only if weather conditions warrant, based on extreme heat.
