DETROIT – A Detroit mother is accused of concealing the death of her newborn son after the child was found dead in a dumpster.
Daysiana Lachell Powell, 31, was charged with one count of concealing the death of an individual. She faces up to five years in prison.

Detroit police said officers found the child in a blue tote wrapped in a white sheet inside a dumpster in the 11300 block of E 7 Mile Road on July 8 just before 11 a.m. The child was later identified as Powell’s son.
Powell is accused of concealing the death of her newborn and not reporting it to authorities. She was arrested on July 10.
She was arraigned in court on July 12 and was given a $50,000 personal bond.
She is scheduled to return to court on July 21.
