MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – The man accused of shooting and killing a man at a Macomb County hotel has pleaded no contest.
Luke James Svacha, 51, of Center Line, was charged with homicide, felony firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and restricting and obstructing the police.

The shooting happened at 5:30 a.m. on Feb. 1, 2025, at the Extended Stay America hotel at 33400 Van Dyke Avenue in Sterling Heights.
When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect had already left. Jajuan Marls, 24, was found dead from a gunshot wound.
An investigation led officers to a house in the 8400 block of State Park Street in Center Line.
Svacha allegedly barricaded himself inside the home, and after hours of negotiations, authorities convinced him to exit the home.
He was taken into custody within 12 hours of the shooting, police said.
On July 27, Svacha pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and felony firearm. As part of a sentencing agreement, he will be sentenced to at least 22 years in prison.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 9 at 8:30 a.m.
