OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A White Lake man has been charged with multiple felonies following an investigation into the alleged sexual exploitation of a minor, Southfield police said.
The Southfield Police Department, in partnership with the Oakland County Human Trafficking Prevention Task Force, announced charges against 23-year-old Christopher Abela of White Lake after investigators said he communicated with a 14-year-old victim through Snapchat.

Police said the investigation found Abela allegedly groomed the child for sexual purposes.
Detectives later executed search warrants and conducted forensic examinations of electronic devices, uncovering evidence that led to multiple felony charges.
The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office authorized the following charges against Abela:
- Six counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct
- Two counts of using a computer to commit a crime
- One count of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material
- One count of aggravated child sexually abusive activity
Abela was arraigned in the 46th District Court before Magistrate King and was granted a $50,000 personal bond, according to police. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 13, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Arvant.
Police said the investigation remains active and detectives believe there may be additional victims or witnesses who can provide information.
