When it comes to voter turnout in Michigan’s primary, some closely-watched races brought out voters. Across the country on Saturday, the League of Women Voters held events encouraging people to vote, especially first-time voters.
“I actually just voted, like this is my first time voting actually,” said 19-year-old Faith Coats.

“It’s very important to vote, I think young people need to vote as well,” Faith said.
The League of Women Voters was created a century ago to educate women on their voting rights after they got the right to vote.
This weekend the non-profit hosted 350 events across the country, mobilizing all voters before the midterms.
“We don’t support or oppose candidates or parties. Our goal is to give people information to feel confident to go to the ballot - but what choice you make is yours when you get there,” said Celina Stewart, the CEO of the League of Women Voters.
“Right now people are wanting to do something and they want action,” Celina added. “This provides an opportunity for people to be civically engaged in a non-partisan way. It’s about getting educated on what’s going on in our communities and finding ways to activate in a way that’s comfortable for everyone on.”
