SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Two people are dead and another is injured after an early Sunday morning shooting at a Southfield restaurant.
Just after 3:30 a.m., police were called to the Hidden Gem restaurant off of West Nine Mile Road on a report of shots fired.
Officers found one person suffering from a gunshot wound. He later died at the scene.
Two other victims were taken to the hospital, one of them had been shot multiple times, and later died from his injuries.
The third victim suffered a graze wound.
A staff member at the restaurant tells Local 4 the restaurant is sometimes used as a private lounge and event space after hours.
Following the shooting, the building was closed for the day.
“I wish it wasn’t that way,” Alexander Christiansen said. Christiansen pulled up to the building on Sunday afternoon looking to buy some shoes. The building has several shops, salons and offices.
That’s when he found out the building was closed.
“I saw some other people that have a suite in the building and I asked them and then they walked up to the door and were like, ‘yeah, it’s closed,’” he said.
A staff member at the Hidden Gem says the shooting happened after two men, who knew each other, saw one another and an argument began. The staff member called the situation very unfortunate.
A few moments later, that’s when the gunfire started.
