Man charged in Grosse Pointe Woods rape suspected of additional crime spree

Gerald Day charged with raping woman after breaking into home

GROSSE POINTE WOODS, Mich. – A man charged with raping a woman in a home with her young child in Grosse Pointe Woods is under investigation for additional incidents, officials said.

Gerald Day, 27, is charged with breaking into a woman's home April 15 while she slept with her 4-year-old son.

Grosse Pointe Woods police said the woman woke up to Day standing over her bed. He is accused of terrorizing the woman with her child right next to her.

"After a period of time, Day forced the complainant into the kitchen and ordered her to take off her clothes," the detective said. "When she refused, he put the gun to her forehead and asked her, 'Do you want to die?'"

Police said Day went on to sexually assault the woman.

Day was also arrested in Grosse Pointe Farms when he tried to break into several other homes.

He might also face charges in a Grosse Pointe case in which a teenager was forced into her basement at gunpoint before her attacker was scared off.

Investigators are working to link all the cases together, raising the question whether a serial rapist was on the loose.

"I just don't believe some of it, no," Day's mother said Thursday outside court.
