LIVONIA, Mich. – A woman stabbed her boyfriend with a butcher's knife last week after he made a comment about her poor driving while teaching her how to drive a stick shift, police said.
Police said the man was trying to teach Lisa Moore how to drive a stick shift around 8 p.m. Aug. 17 in the parking lot of a Kroger store in Livonia. The lesson wasn't going well, and the man made a comment about Moore's driving.
"He made some comment about her poor driving, and he got out of the vehicle and started walking, I believe, east on 5 Mile back home or to make a phone call to get somebody to pick him up to head home," said Livonia police Capt. Robert Nenciarini.
The man was walking east on 5 Mile Road when Moore caught up to him and stabbed him with a butcher's knife, police said.
"He heard somebody come up behind him, and then he felt a wet spot on his back and realized he had been stabbed," Nenciarini said.
Police said the man had a one-inch wound that required four stitches.
Since they were dating, the victim was able to tell Livonia police where Moore lives. She was arrested the next day.
Moore is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and domestic violence. She has previous convictions for drug possession, retail fraud, and home invasion.
Officials said Moore is considered a habitual offender, so she could spend up to 15 years in prison. But the investigation is complicated for police because the stories have been changing and the victim isn't cooperating.
"It's a little strange about what really happened because at one point, when he went to the hospital, he told the medical crew that he fell off his skateboard," Nenciarini said.
Police are continuing to investigate the stabbing, but they said only two people know exactly what happened.
