City leaders say the cost of the park would be nearly $500,000, but could be paid for with part of a $2 million grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The splash park would not have standing water so lifeguards would not have to be hired. Nozzles in the ground would spray water into the air for children to play in.

A public hearing on the issue will be held Feb. 28.
