TAYLOR, Mich. – As election season nears, someone has been targeting a candidate running for treasurer in Taylor.
Jean Smith, the candidate, said she noticed her signs disappearing at a rapid rate.
A supporter allowed her to put one of her signs up at his gas station on Pardee and Wick roads. Security cameras caught a man driving up and stealing her sign.
"I think it's ridiculous and so childish to steal political signs," Smith said.
After watching the video, she said she didn't recognize the thief or the car. Taylor police have the gas station video. It's illegal to steal campaign signs.
At last count, 13 of Smith's signs have been stolen. For a small race for a part-time treasurer's job, that's a significant amount.
