WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A passionate group of animal lovers and their pets walked about a half mile from the Waterford Rotary Park to the Township Hall Monday night to support Dan Tillery and his adopted rescue dog, Diggy.
The Waterford Township man may have to give Diggy up because of a ban on pit bulls.
This month, a picture of Tillery and his adorable new dog went viral. Tillery said Diggy is part American bull dog and part pit bull.
But he could have to pay $500 and relocate Diggy if a vet determines the dog is majority pit bull.
Supporters said Diggy should be allowed to stay and the ban should be repealed.
Activists say breed specific legislation does nothing to keep people safe.
Tillery has 10 days to schedule a court hearing to prove the dog's breeds.
Supporters said it's time to repeal breed specific legislation.
