Tony Hawk helps open skate park in Downtown Detroit

DETROIT – In the world of skateboarding, there's no bigger name than Tony Hawk, who visited Downtown Detroit for a special event.

A new public skate park and art installation is opening in Downtown Detroit designed Hawk and artist Ryan McGinness.

Wayfinding, the new park, is at 100 Monroe Street. Hawk hit the ramps Tuesday to show off his moves.

DPSCD students got the chance to customize signed skateboards with McGinness.

The park opens to the public Wednesday.
