Detroit Lions defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson was carted off the field during a training camp session on Monday with a reported leg injury.

Gardner-Johnson went down with a right leg injury, according to team reported Tim Twentyman. The extent of the injury was not yet known.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that there’s some optimism the knee injury is not serious. “More tests to come after CJGJ went down in practice today, but as one source put it: “He’s fine.”

Twentyman said CJGJ was “visibly upset” and was comforted by Isaiah Buggs and Jared Goff.

Gardner-Johnson was one of the biggest free agent acquisitions the Lions made this past offseason. The veteran signed a one-year, $8 million deal to join Detroit’s revamped secondary.

The Lions opened training camp in Allen Park just a few days ago.
