ESPN: Injuries plague Detroit Lions young stars during practice

Head coach Dan Campbell uncertain on starters playing week 2 preseason matchup vs. Chiefs

DETROIT – According to ESPN, three Detroit Lions young star players have left practice with injuries.

ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported on X that explosive Pro Bowl running back Jahmyr Gibbs left practice early after he suffered a hamstring injury (Monday) Aug. 12.

Gibbs tallied 182 rushing attempts during his rookie season for 945 yards and 10 touchdowns.

He also recorded 52 receptions for 316 yards and one touchdown last season, helping revive the Lions’ backfield and pushing them to the NFC Championship game, where they fell to the San Francisco 49ers.

During his first postseason, Gibbs toted the pigskin 29 times for 144 yards and three touchdowns, with his longest run totaling 31 yards. He also caught 11 passes for 94 yards.

Lions team reporter Eric Woodyard confirmed the report on X while adding that rookie cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw also got injured during practice.

Arnold seemed to have suffered an upper-body injury, while Rakestraw is being evaluated for an ankle injury.

Head coach Dan Campbell was asked during practice if the starters would take the field against the reigning, defending back-to-back Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs during their week two preseason matchup. He told reporters that it all depended on how practice played out.

From the looks of Monday’s injuries, it might be safe to say that the starters should be placed in bubble wrap until week one of the preseason.
