Michigan basketball to hang Trey Burke’s jersey in rafters of Crisler Center

Ceremony scheduled for Ohio State game on Jan. 23, 2026

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Michigan basketball is honoring program legend Trey Burke by hanging his jersey in the rafters of the Crisler Center.

The Wolverines announced Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, that Burke’s No. 3 will become the sixth jersey honored inside the arena.

The celebration is scheduled for Jan. 23, 2026, when Michigan hosts Ohio State. Burke is a native of Columbus, Ohio.

Burke played two seasons in Ann Arbor from 2011-2013, scoring 1,231 points on 45% shooting while adding 416 assists, 242 rebounds, and 93 steals.

As a senior in 2012-13, Burke averaged 18.6 points, 6.7 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game while shooting 46.3% from the floor and 38.4% from three. He led the Wolverines to their first 30-win season and Final Four appearance since the Fab Five.

His most iconic moment came in the 2013 Sweet 16 against No. 1 Kansas. Burke drilled a 30-footer with under 5 seconds remaining to tie the game and send it to overtime.

Michigan ultimately beat Kansas and marched all the way to the national championship game. Burke led the team with 24 points in the title game despite playing just 26 minutes due to foul trouble.

  • Bob Cousy Award in 2013
  • National Player of the Year (AP, NABC, and USBWA) in 2013
  • First-team All-American in 2013
  • Big Ten Player of the Year in 2013
  • First-Team All-Big Ten
  • Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2012

He was selected with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft and played 10 seasons in the league with the Utah Jazz, Washington Wizards, New York Knicks, Dallas Mavericks, and Philadelphia 76ers.

Cazzie Russell, Rudy Tomjanovich, Phil Hubbard, Glen Rice, and Bill Buntin are the other players whose jerseys hang in the rafters. Only Russell’s No. 33 is fully retired.
