Tom Izzo: Michigan State will adjust but not ‘totally change’ with new transfer rules in place
EAST LANSING – College basketball’s new reality is officially here, and Tom Izzo is still leery of it. The NCAA officially passed legislation in April to allow transfer players to compete immediately at their new schools and not have to sit out a year. Reservations about how the new transfer rules will affect the sport haven’t stopped Michigan State from bettering its own roster through the portal. But with the rules he campaigned against for years finally here, Izzo said he’ll adjust to the new reality he never wanted. “We’re going to adjust, we’re not going to totally change.”Also on the podcast, Izzo said that Michigan State’s summer practices will officially get underway on June 7.mlive.com
College basketball rocked by record number of players entering transfer portal
A proposed new NCAA transfer rule is turning college basketball upside down. There are currently 1,000 players in the transfer portal with more to come. “I predicted 2,000 at beginning of the year,” said Greg Kampe, head coach of Oakland University men’s basketball team. Kampe and his staff are constantly checking the NCAA transfer portal. You’re going to see a new kids every year, and really, you’re gonna have to cheer for your school,” he said.
