DETROIT – As most know, not only is Michigan a beautiful place to live, but it also offers unexpected weather out of season. For the past few weeks, we’ve been gifted unusually warm temperatures, and as there’s no reason to complain, there’s something about a crispy fall day that really ties together a football Sunday.
It’s fitting that as we head into Week 6 of the Detroit Lions season, the weather is hitting its stride simultaneously with our team.

In our family, we have a group text chain properly labeled “Lions Die Hards.” This group text includes a few select members, and our only rule is that the content or messaging shared must be Lions and/or NFL related.
After Week 1, we were all eager to hit the panic button after losing to division rival Green Bay. It was at that time when my wife’s cousin, Grant, simply said, “Everyone calm down. You evaluate your team every four to five games.”
Well, aren’t we glad we waited? For the first time I can ever remember as a Lions fan, we are officially No. 1 in the NFL power rankings.
Locally, as well as nationally, every football media show and analyst has unequivocally labeled us as the best team in the league. With so many years of sub-par results, it’s still hard to believe, but here we are.
With the Kansas City Chiefs on deck, I took some time to reflect on the first quarter of the season. Our offense is clicking on all cylinders, and our approach is so balanced that it truly moves in harmony.
Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery bring a swift punch out of the backfield. Jared Goff seems more dialed in than he’s ever been. And Amon-Ra St. Brown has solidified himself as a top-five receiver in the league.
On the defensive side, we’ve been hit with the injury bug again. But this time, you can truly see our resilience with the “next man up” mentality providing zero excuses.
I’d say the No. 1 ranking is a fair assessment.
Not only does reflecting on the Lions’ season give us a chance to celebrate, but it also provides an opportunity to celebrate just how special each Sunday is.
Lions football is religion in our family. Nothing takes precedence over all of us getting together, locking in on the game, and enjoying each other’s company.
We’ve even started to involve the next generation in the action. I mean, what kid doesn’t like staying up late on a school night to watch the Lions?
We will have members of the “Lions Die Hard” group in Kansas City on Sunday night to cheer on our team. I’m confident that come Monday morning, we will all be in a positive mood.
Go Lions!

Postgame update
After a tough night in Kansas City, our Lions moved to a record of 4-2 overall. This loss has me thinking nothing less of this team.
Kansas City was against the ropes and wanted it more than we did, plain and simple. Sometimes it’s not a bad thing for our team to get grounded so they can realign.
Overall, it’s the NFL. You’ll have losses. You just need to make sure this isn’t a continuing trend.
GO LIONS!
