DETROIT – How have the Detroit Lions gone three full years without losing back-to-back games?
Dan Campbell was asked that question again on Monday night, after the Lions beat the 5-1 Tampa Bay Buccaneers to bounce back from last week’s loss in Kansas City.
He doesn’t like the question -- mostly because he’s worried it’ll jinx his team. But it’s hard to ignore at this point.
The Lions last lost consecutive games on Oct. 30, 2022. It was actually their fifth loss in a row that year, and dropped them to 1-6 on the season.
Since the Lions have a bye next week, the three-year anniversary of that date will come and go before they even step back on the field.
Detroit finished the 2022 season with eight wins and two losses -- exactly one month apart on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Eve.
The Lions scattered five losses during their 12-5 season in 2023, and it’s no surprise they avoided a losing streak in 2024, since they only lost twice the whole season.
Now, midway through 2025, they’re 5-2 heading into the bye week.
So why does Campbell think they’re so good at bouncing back from losses?
“We’ve got a special group of coaches and players, and I just think they’re competitive,” Campbell said. “They want to win. They’re able to really focus on what needs to be fixed, what cost us the loss the week before, and simply keep it in that department. Keep it in that compartment. Don’t make more of it than needs be. Don’t lose confidence. Just fix it. I think that’s where our guys are really special. We just go to work. We fix it. They’ve always been that way. The lights come on and guys show up.”
