Detroit Lions agree to record contract extension with Aidan Hutchinson, per report

Hutchinson gets 4-year, $180 million extension, per Schefter

DETROIT – The Detroit Lions have agreed to a record contract extension with star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson, according to a report.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter says the Lions and Hutchinson have agreed to a four-year extension worth $180 million, which is $45 million per season. He gets $141 million guaranteed.

That’s the most guaranteed money ever given to a non-quarterback in the NFL.

Hutchinson, 25, is midway through his fourth NFL season, leading the Lions with six sacks in seven games. He has been one of the best pass rushers in the league since the Linos drafted him No. 2 overall in 2022, racking up 34.5 sacks in 46 games.

The Lions lost Hutchinson for more than half of the 2024 season when he broke his leg against the Dallas Cowboys. He had 7.5 sacks at the time and was among the leaders for Defensive Player of the Year.

He’s picked up where he left off this season, with six sacks and four forced fumbles.

Hutchinson has spent his entire football career in Southeast Michigan, starring for Divine Child High School in Dearborn and then at the University of Michigan, where he had 18.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and 155 total tackles from 2018-2021.

Hutchinson is the latest in a long line of recent massive contract extensions for the Lions. They have also locked up Kerby Joseph and Alim McNeill on the defensive side of the ball, and Jared Goff, Penei Sewell, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Jameson Williams on offense.
